RHINOPLASTY

A rhinoplasty is surgery on the nose to change its shape or
improve its function.

Possible changes that your surgeon can make to your nose through
rhinoplasty include:
ï‚· a change in size
ï‚· a change in angle

ï‚· straightening of the bridge
ï‚· reshaping of the tip
ï‚· narrowing of the nostrils

HOW IT WORKS ?
. Tell the doctor what bothers you about your nose and how
you would like to change it.
ï‚· A plastic surgeon can describe the facial features that
make you unique and tell you how changes would
enhance your appearance.

The surgeon will also consider your overall health and
should discuss with you the risks, recovery time, and
costs involved.
ï‚· There are various techniques for reshaping the nose.
Based on requirement the surgeon will describe the
technique.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?
Rhinoplasty is done in an outpatient surgical facility. Your doctor will use
local or general anesthesia. If it’s a simple procedure, you’ll receive local
anesthesia to your nose, which will also numb your face.
Once you’re numb or unconscious, your surgeon will make cuts between or
inside your nostrils. They’ll separate your skin from your cartilage or bone
and then start the reshaping.
The procedure usually takes between one and two hours. If the surgery is
complex, it can take longer.
RECOVERY
After surgery, your doctor may place a plastic or metal splint on your nose.
The splint will help your nose retain its new shape while it heals.

You’ll be monitored in a recovery room for at least a few hours after
surgery. If everything is okay, you’ll leave later that day.
To reduce bleeding and swelling, you’ll want to rest with your head
elevated above your chest.
You are usually required to leave splints and dressings in place for up to a
week after surgery. You might have absorbable stitches, meaning they’ll
dissolve and won’t require removal.
